UQM Technologies lands $2.8M in military contracts - Triangle Business Journal:

The Frederick-based electric-motor technology company (NYSrE Amex: UQM) said the orders have been forpropulsionb systems, generators and engineering activities. The most recent it said, is a $750,000 Phasw II Small Business Innovation Researchg contract fromthe U.S. Navy to developl a high torque electro-magnetic actuatot system. It said the two-year contractf is to develop improvementa in the torque capability ofelectriv motors, and to work with the Universitt of Texas to develolp an advanced gearbox.
"The military continues to aggressively pursue the advancemen t of electric motor technology and its use in a varieth ofdemanding applications, includinvg vehicle propulsion," said William Rankin, the company's in a statement. "We are pleased to have the U.S. Navy and Air Force as significant customers for our proprietary technology and are looking forwardc to the continued development and application of our advancedc motors and power electronic controlsw fortheir programs.
